Internship Program
Minority Educational Institutions Student Partnership Program (MEISPP)

MEISPP offers talented undergraduate and graduate students summer internship positions with the U.S. Department of Energy and its national laboratories. Positions involve scientific research or a focus on policy, business, and government relations. All internships include paid lodging, round trip airfare, and monetary compensation.

As Program participants, students receive an intensive 8-week assignment to "jump-start" their careers and develop their potential for future opportunities within the federal government. Students work side-by-side with leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to develop career skills and enhance leadership capabilities.

Eligibility requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have earned at least 24 semester hours (39 quarter credit hours)
  • Must be enrolled as a full time undergraduate or graduate/professional student in an accredited institution of higher education in the fall 2009
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.8 or above on a 4.0 scale

Applicants must also demonstrate the following:

  • Leadership potential
  • Commitment to public service
  • Interest in energy-related issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Two letters of Recommendation
  • Enrollment Verification (download enrollment form, PDF)

How Will I Know if I am Selected?

Applicants selected to participate in the 2008 Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership Program will be notified within 45 days from the submission deadline (March 31, 2009). Selected applicants will receive an official offer letter within 10 business days of being notified.

Applicants who are not selected to participate in MEISPP will be notified as soon as possible after the selection committee has made their decision.

MEISPP seeks students pursuing degrees in a variety of academic majors, including, but not limited to:

Engineering — Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Material, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Nuclear, and Petroleum.

Sciences — Biological, Computer, Information Technology, Geology, Math, Microbiology, and Physics.
